Once upon a time in 2014, Amazon tried their hands on a smartphone, but they failed miserably. Now, once again, they have come up with yet another attempt at manufacturing smartphones. Previously, Amazon-branded smartphones were called as the Amazon Fire Phone. The phone failed to make a mark in the smartphone market.
So, they were sold at miserable prices. From that time onwards, Amazon didn’t try their hands on smartphone again. Now, the company is working for the second time, and this time it is named as Amazon Ice Smartphone. Reports suggest Amazon is working on a new lineup of smartphones. It will be sold under the “Ice” brand. During the first attempt at Fire smartphones, Amazon focused on the USA and few other European markets. In this second attempt, Amazon will focus on the emerging markets like India.
The new smartphones will be Android phones powered by Google. So you will get the Google Play services and Play Store facilities. Amazon Ice Smartphones will also face a shift. Amazon Fire smartphones didn’t have Google Apps service. But the Ice branded smartphones will have Google Apps.
The specs of Amazon Ice Smartphone
Amazon will make two Ice Smartphones. One with a 5.2-inch display and the other with a 5.5-inch display. One of the handset’s specs will be Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, Android 7.1.1 Nougat, 16GB internal memory, 2GB RAM and 13MP primary camera.
Amazon didn’t make any official comments on this issue. So right now, it is still not official yet. The phone is tipped to be priced at Rs 6000. Now, chances are, this time Amazon might be lucky. There are two reasons for that.First, if the price range is correct, then this will be a good budget smartphone for an emerging smartphone market like India. Second is, this time, the phones have Google Play support so that people will have access to Google Apps from Play Store. Previously, restriction to only Amazon Store was the cause of disinterest for the phone.
The only disadvantage is, the new Amazon Ice Smartphone will not have Alexa on it. Still, we think it will not matter if it can offer all the specs and Google Play Services within the price mentioned above. Amazon has already invested $5 billion in the Indian Market. So, presently it might be difficult for the company to invest more in a smartphone. Apart from that, Amazon has to deal with an array of smartphone manufacturers who are trying to grab a share into the Indian market.
