Just a week ago, a Nikkei Asia-based report suggested that Apple will introduce three iPhone 8 variants in 2017. One among the three options is a 5.5-inch variant that can give the Plus moniker is going to sport an OLED display panel. A Recent report further provides evidence of the iPhone maker’s interest in OLED panels. Apple also gives a hint that the iPhone 8 will eventually introduce the privilege to shift away from the low-temperature polysilicon displays.
Nikkei Asian Review report states that Apple will take on OLED panels on the iPhone 8. There is also a possibility for the tech giant to produce some of it in the US. Though there were talks among the people about Apple’s OLED adoption, this report confirmed the execution.
Just to recapitulate, Foxconn got its hands on Sharp last year and promoted Tai Jeng-wu as the CEO then after. Foxconn is the original maker of iPhones for Apple. He brought up the plans of Sharp. He also hinted that the firm would manufacture OLED displays in the United States if required.
“We are now building a new [OLED] facility in Japan. We can make [OLED panels] in the US too. If our core customer demands us to manufacture in the US, is it possible for us not to do so?” said Jeng-wu.
Expected Features of iPhone 8
OLED displays are battery efficient. These panels offer a sharper color, good contrast besides providing deeper blacks. The individual product in the Apple’s lineup that currently uses OLED display is the Apple Watch. Apple watch is being a huge hit product among the tech wearables. Apple’s rivals such as Samsung and LG have all started to use OLED displays in their smartphones long back. It is just a matter of time before Apple joins the OLED crazy clan of the technology industry.
As stated in the rumors, people expect the iPhone 8 to come in three different sizes which are 4.7-inch, 5-inch, and 5.5-inch. Reports suspect that the smartphone would sport no Home Button. The iPhone maker will probably embed the fingerprint sensor into the display panel. It will more likely have an edge-to-edge screen.
If we go with rumors, iPhone 8 will feature a wireless charging module in it. It is the most likely feature to have for future iPhone. According to reports, Apple has been hiring engineers from wireless charging companies. Also, we have heard that iPhone manufacturing partner Foxconn is testing wireless charging module.
“The iPhone is still in its evolving phase. It is switching from low-temperature polysilicon displays to OLED panels. There is no guarantee for Apple’s OLED iPhones success, but it is a faith-based risk. Hopefully, the product will be a hit. Apple maker this trail to transform itself. It is evident for Apple to make products out of continuous innovation.
” It is a crisis, but it is also an opportunity,” Jeng-wu said to Nikkei Asian Review.
